The Castros (forts) of Barbude, Castrovite and San Miguel de Castro

A Estrada as a district has been shaped by its inhabitants over thousands of years. Significant features of the cultural landscape include its castros, fortified villages dating from the Iron Age.

A visit to Barbude, San Miguel de Castro and Castrovite reveals how those settlements, built both to see and be seen, formed monuments that marked the Estrada landscape from the 8th century B.C. until well into the Middle Ages.
